Experienced. Trusted. Committed. Effective.
Welcome to our campaign’s website. My name is Larry Zikmund and I’m running for re-election to be your voice in the State House in District 14. I’ve spent my career working on statewide issues including economic development and workforce development. We must bring people together to find solutions for the challenges our state faces. As your legislator, I support pro-business policies that cut red tape and allow businesses to innovate and create jobs. Ensuring our students are equipped for the future job market must also be a top priority.
As your legislator I am an advocate for:
• Economic development and workforce development to create jobs across the state
• Investing in a world-class education system
• Keeping taxes low
• Holding the line on spending – Just like a household budget, we must live within our means.
I have been blessed with a wonderful family including 48 years of marriage to my wife Judi. We have two daughters and six grandchildren. They are a constant reminder that we must invest in our children’s future through K-12 education and post secondary education. I have served under three Governors as the State Director of Adult Vocational and Technical Education which included K-12, Technical Institutes, and programs for the Board of Regents. I support public/private partnerships to engage the business community and education system while being mindful that every dollar the state spends comes from taxpayers.
While President/CEO of the Associated General Contractors Building Chapter, I collaborated with contractors, business leaders, and elected officials on economic development issues across the state. That experience provides me with a strong understanding of policies that promote growth and job creation. My job was to be a voice and advocate on behalf of businesses to support pro growth policies in communities both large and small. Keeping South Dakota growing and creating opportunities for our children must be a top priority in Pierre.
As a veteran of the United States Air Force, I understand that we must continue to support our veterans. While President/CEO of the Associated General Contractors Building Chapter, I helped pioneer Operation Opening Doors to remodel and construct new homes for our returning disabled veterans. This program has been replicated nationally. I was involved in the Honor Flight program that flew WWII veterans to Washington, DC. I am active in the Veterans Affairs Committee at the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.
South Dakota has a significant aging population and it is also important to ensure that the elderly have access to quality medical care.
I’m working hard to earn your vote for District 14 House.
